August 1989 fand an der \u00f6sterreichisch-ungarischen Grenze das \u201ePaneurop\u00e4ische Picknick\u201c statt. Der Eiserne Vorhang hatte bereits L\u00f6cher bekommen, weil Ungarn begonnen hatte, die kaputten Grenzsicherungsanlagen abzubauen. Alois Mock und Gyula Horn hatten bereits am 27. Juni 1989 ein St\u00fcck Eisernes Vorhang gemeinsam durchtrennt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Beim \u201ePaneurop\u00e4ischen Picknick\u201c, so die Idee, sollte die Grenze f\u00fcr eine kurze Zeit ge\u00f6ffnet werden, sodass \u00d6sterreichische G\u00e4ste ohne Problem zu dem Picknick auf ungarischer Seite kommen k\u00f6nnten. Ein Picknick eben. Doch aus dem Picknick wurde ein historisches Ereignis. Seit Wochen warteten B\u00fcrger der sogenannten DDR in Fl\u00fcchtlingslagern in Ungarn auf die Chance in den Westen zu gelangen. Das \u201ePaneurop\u00e4ische Picknick\u201c bot die Gelegenheit. 661 Deutsche konnten in die Freiheit fliehen. Und auch wenn die Grenze noch einmal geschlossen wurde, das Loch im Eisernen Vorhang war zu gro\u00df, um es wieder zu schlie\u00dfen. Es folgten im September die Grenz\u00f6ffnung durch Ungarn, im November der Fall der Berliner und letztlich das Ende der Teilung Europas. Der Weg zu einer echten europ\u00e4ischen Einigung war auch f\u00fcr die V\u00f6lker Mittel- und Osteuropas frei.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Was friedlich begonnen hatte f\u00fchrte aber in Jugoslawien zu den blutigen Eroberungskriegen des Slobodan Milosevic. Die Sowjetunion wurde aufgel\u00f6st, doch fast zwei Jahrzehnte sp\u00e4ter begann der russische Despot Vladimir Putin mit Kriegen gegen Georgien (2008) und die Ukraine (2014) seinen Traum von der Wiederherstellung der Sowjetunion umzusetzen.
