Media Campaign: Every Freedom Requires Responsibility

Statement by our President Karl von Habsburg as part of a campaign by Salzburger Nachrichten, DiePresse.com, Kleine Zeitung, nachrichten.at – Oberösterreichische Nachrichten, Tiroler Tageszeitung and Vorarlberger Nachrichten for more respect online.

“Every freedom demands responsibility. Those who seek to conduct ‘discussions’ online with vile insults, threats and slander only condemn themselves. Responsibility is based on a set of values. This must not be forgotten in the apparent anonymity of the internet. Fake news and disinformation are far better refuted with facts than with wild attacks. However, those who believe they must protect the ‘truth’ through state interventions reminiscent of censorship do it no favours.”
