“Reading, writing, arithmetic, basic manners” – when asked what skills would be needed for the future job market, yesterday’s panel discussion “Lost Generation or anything possible?” received a clear answer from Karl Nehammer. To master the future, we need to ease the burden on labour, make the job market more flexible, and above all, have courage.

Lukas Mandl also expressed confidence, emphasising the importance of broadband expansion, as only adequate infrastructure will keep us competitive.Mandl and Nehammer discussed the challenges facing the labour market in the age of digitalisation, moderated by Philipp Stephan Jauernik (Federal Chairman of the Paneuropa Youth Austria). Both agreed: there will be neither mass unemployment nor a land of milk and honey utopia.

Both sides also made a clear commitment to European integration and deeper cooperation in some areas, but also to greater subsidiarity and a clearer division of tasks. A task must be carried out where it can be done best – and this must also be easily understandable for the voter.

The event took place at the invitation of the WStV – Vienna City Association of the MKV in cooperation with the Paneuropa Movement Austria. KÖStV Rudolfina kindly served as host.
