Freedom for Roman Sushchenko
For more than three years, the Ukrainian journalist has been imprisoned in Russia on spurious charges. A commentary by Karl von Habsburg.
Today, 8 February 2019, Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko celebrates his 50th birthday. It is the third birthday he has spent in Russian captivity. He was sentenced to twelve years in prison. The justification for the conviction is one of the usual justifications in today’s Russia: espionage.
Today’s birthday would be a good occasion for all fellow journalists, as well as the governments of the free world, to demand Sushchenko’s release.
Sushchenko draws in the prison of the penal colony in Utrobino. His latest picture shows Saint Sophia Cathedral.
