The EU must now take action and begin accession negotiations with Macedonia.

“We welcome the Greek Parliament’s approval of the Prespa Agreement with Macedonia,” stated Rainhard Kloucek, Secretary General of the Paneuropa Movement Austria.

The Paneuropa Movement, which strongly criticised Greece’s blockade and has always supported Macedonia in this matter, welcomed the name compromise for pragmatic reasons. It was essential that the two states finally bury this tiresome conflict. Politics must often be pragmatic when the result is peace.

“To send a clear signal to the Macedonians—who are frustrated after 27 years of blockade—that they are a vital part of a united Europe, the EU must now launch accession negotiations with Macedonia,” demands Stefan Haböck, International Affairs Officer of the Paneuropa Movement Austria.

In the summer of 2018, France and the Netherlands blocked the start of talks – this blockade must be lifted immediately.
